American trumpeter Jeremy Pelt returns to Fasching with his updated version of post-bop crossed with airy, dreamy fusion jazz. When Pelt was here with his quintet in 2019, the focus was on the concept album The Artist, influenced by the French sculptor Auguste Rodin.
Since then, the immensely prolific LA-based trumpeter has released five more albums with the latest Tomorrow’s Another Day being released this year. Featuring Jalen Baker’s vibraphone, Tomorrow’s Another Day carries a sound reminiscent of the early years of legendary fusion group Steps Ahead. But there are also references to Miles’ later decades and Roy Hargrove.
Berklee-educated Pelton studied classical trumpet as a child but focused on jazz after high school. The first album under his own name Profile came out in 2002 and now he is on over 25 own albums and countless as a sideman. 48-year-old Jeremy Pelt has also collaborated with many other notables Ravi Coltrane, Cedar Walton and Jimmy Heath.
We are proud to once again welcome Jeremy Pelt and his band to Kungsgatan 63.
