Soft Machine

The legendary British band Soft Machine has, like the phoenix, risen and reinvented themselves itself time and again since its origins on the Canterbury scene in 1966.

From their early days as a progressive rock-psychedelic band, sharing stages with Pink Floyd and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, to becoming one of Europe’s most renowned fusion bands, Soft Machine’s music has influenced generations of musicians.

While the lineup has changed many times, the band’s ethos of musical adventure has remained constant, as has their ease in avoiding being confined to any single genre. Their music spans powerful progressive jazz fusion, atmospheric psychedelia, free improvised jazz-rock, and ambient loop music. Their latest album, Other Doors, was released in 2023.

…the great thing about the current group is that there is no desire to live in the past. The Soft Machine project seems to be pointed forward and not part of the heritage.” – Jazz Journal (Brian Morton)
