Two years ago, American jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein was last at Kungsgatan 63, then in a trio with organist Bill Stewart and drummer Bill Stewart. Now Bernstein joins Dutch guitarist Jesse van Ruller for an evening in the rich and challenging art form of the guitar duo format.
Bernstein has worked with many of the great names in jazz, Tony Bennett, Joshua Redman, Diana Krall, Lou Donaldson and Jimmy Cobb. He studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and is inspired by guitarists such as Wes Montgomery and Grant Green.
Jesse van Ruller was born in 1974 in Amsterdam. Educated at the conservatory in Amsterdam where he developed his technique and his musical expression. His style is influenced by the great guitarists of jazz such as Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and Pat Metheny.
It is not quite common for two jazz guitarists of this caliber to form a duo. Two guitarists highly regarded by jazz guitarists worldwide, not only for their brilliant technique, but also for their drive to explore new directions in their improvisations.
At Fasching, all lovers of traditional jazz will be able to listen to the classics, from Kurt Weill’s Speak Low to Rodgers and Hart’s With a song in my heart to Dizzy Gillespie’s Con Alma.
