Groundbreaking composer and conductor Maria Schneider is one of the jazz world’s most original and respected voices. Now Grammy-awarded Schneider comes to Fasching with the music from his magnum opus “Data Lords” together with the phenomenal Oslo Jazz Ensemble.
The music is inspired by the contradictory relationship between the digital and the natural world. “No one can deny the impact that the data-hungry digital world has had on our lives. As big data companies clamor for our attention, I know I’m not alone in struggling to find space, to stay in touch with my quieter inner world, with nature and the simpler things in life, says Schneider.
Maria Schneider’s music has been praised by critics as atmospheric, majestic, magical, daring as well as heartbreakingly beautiful and transcending genres beyond categorization.
The Oslo Jazz Ensemble consists of some of the Norwegian capital’s most respected jazz musicians. The ensemble has the unique ability to perform as a “19-man jazz quartet” and switch from passionate ensemble playing to intuitive and personal interpretation in the fraction of a second. An ability that suits Schneider’s sophisticated and detailed music that unites thoroughly composed and improvised music, individually as well as collectively.
An evening with Maria Schneider, one of the greatest modern big band composers, together with the Oslo Jazz Ensemble is Christmas Eve for all lovers of the modern big band. Now with the Grammy-winning work that also earned her a finalist spot for the 2021 Pulitzer Prize.
