Michelle Gurevich makes music for the late-night soul. Lo-fi, slow-burning and emotionally charged, her sound draws from chanson, slowcore and 70s Eastern European balladry – delivered with a smoky voice and wry sense of drama. Her fans include both the Berlin underground and lovers of richly melancholic songcraft.
Her latest album It Was the Moment was born from grief and instability, and may be her most vulnerable work to date. Songs touch on passion, madness, loss and the end of things – but always with elegance and wit. She’s often compared to Leonard Cohen and Nico, but hers is a voice and vision entirely her own.
Live, Gurevich transforms intimate despair into collective catharsis. With her tight band behind her, she fills the room with slow tempo beauty, tragic romance and moments of sardonic sparkle.
