Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet are back! It was in 2008 that the story began – born from an idea for a jazz album for EMI/Blue Note. Magnus Carlson contacted Goran Kajfeš and assembled an outstanding band consisting of Goran on trumpet, Per Ruskträsk Johansson on saxophone and flute, Lars Skoglund on drums, Carl Bagge on piano, Peter Forss on bass and Mattias Ståhl on vibraphone.
Their debut album, which mainly consisted of music outside the classic jazz standard repertoire – from The Zombies to Rodriguez – quickly gained acclaim and was followed by a tour and another album “Echoes”. Now they are finally ready to face the audience together again.
-We had a lot of fun and played a lot until 2013 when our other bands and projects completely took over. Over the years, we’ve talked about resurrecting at some point – and now it’s finally time, says Magnus Carlson.
-Playing songs from widely different places that we all like and have listened to, in a decent classic jazz cut with the best band and Magnus’ unique voice, felt joyful and natural every second. It will be so much fun to bring this to life again, says Goran Kajfeš.
In addition to songs from previous albums, they will also offer newly written material. Prepare for evenings filled with swinging jazz and magical tones when Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet take the stage at Fasching.
