The Nordic blackness meets the shimmering New York in Finnish bassist Kaisa Mäensivu’s Kaisa’s Machine, the critically acclaimed cross-fertilization of Nordic noir and American glitter.
Kaisa formed her ensemble in Helsinki in 2015 and the debut album came in 2017 with In the Key of K. Since then, Kaisa has moved to New York City and built an international career. Studied with Ron Carter, played with Tom Hagan and Kurt Rosenwinkel and at Jazz at the Lincoln center. The sequel Taking Shape was released in 2023 on Dave Douglas’ label Greenleaf Music.
Mäensivu’s music is emotional and strong with a developed sense of storytelling in both writing and gameplay. And her music has evolved in the encounter with New York.
“This album represents a new, progressive and hard-hitting direction in my music that is a reflection of New York,” says Kaisa Mäensivu herself.
Now this brilliant Finnish bass player is coming to Fasching together with his band.
