With her acclaimed quartet, harpist and composer Julie Campiche has put Swiss avant-garde jazz on the international jazz map.
In addition to contemporary jazz, Julie Campiche’s music draws inspiration from classical music, music from the Middle East, electronica and from the ECM sound in general and Keith Jarrett in particular.
Musical kinship exists with the Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer and the British Portico Quartet. And inspiration is also drawn from artists such as Tom Waits, Portishead and the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.
Campiche has developed the use of electronic effects on the harp in a way that has multiplied the possibilities in improvisational work. Together with the quartet, she creates a music where the electronic effects from each instrument intertwine in a delicate but powerful acoustic space that balances written parts with open improvisations.
In November 2022, the Julie Campiche Quartet returned with their second album “You Matter”. An experimental album with a hopeful message around themes such as climate change in dark and troubled times. On the song Fridays of hope, Campiche pays tribute to climate activist Greta Thunberg with interspersed quotes from Greta’s speech.
Now this Swiss avant-garde quartet comes to jazz club Fasching to spread hope.
