The concert is part of the collaboration FASCHING X SELAM
Standing on the foundations of Ghanaian 70’s highlife music, Jembaa Groove has played together their own modern version of highlife, jazz and soul with influences from their great predecessors.
The band consists of former musicians and band members from Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas and Orlando Julius. Playing and recording with these highlife and Afrobeat legends has shaped the sound of the Jembaa Groove musicians.
With their energetic live performances, Jembaa Groove has made a name for themselves across large parts of the world. The band consists of musicians from Ghana, Germany, Benin, Israel, Cuba and Portugal who carry the audience through a mix of tight arrangements and spontaneous improvisation, dreamlike wind lines, captivating guitars and heavenly voices.
This is how the Seattle-based radio station KEXP writes:
“Their debut album is a groovy blend of traditional West African and highlife rhythms infused with classic jazz and soul touchpoints that’s all complemented beautifully by Owusu’s vocals.”
Now this seven-piece band, which combines the sound of Berlin’s underground scene with traditional West African influences from Ghana and Mali, finally comes to Kungsgatan 63.
