Acclaimed British jazz singer and award-winner Claire Martin OBE reunites with her Swedish trio, led by the exceptional pianist and arranger Martin Sjöstedt, for the new album “Almost in Your Arms”. The music highlights Claire’s unparalleled ability to seamlessly blend classic jazz standards, such as the title track from the film Houseboat, with contemporary works by Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright, and Mark Winkler. Featuring bassist Niklas Fernqvist and drummer Daniel Fredriksson, the ensemble forms a swinging band showcasing some of Europe’s finest jazz talents. The album was included on JazzWise’s list of the Top 20 Albums of 2024.
Claire has collaborated with Martin Taylor, John Martyn, Stephane Grappelli, Kenny Barron, and Jim Mullen. She worked extensively with Richard Rodney Bennett until his passing in 2012 and has been signed to Linn Records since 1990, with 18 released albums. In the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2011, Claire was awarded an OBE for her services to jazz. In 2018, she proudly received the BASCA Gold Badge Award for her contribution to jazz.
