New York-born saxophonist and singer Camille Thurman has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter, Dexter Gordon and Joe Henderson. It may sound strange, but Thurman is just as skilled on the tenor saxophone as she is on vocals.
Her four albums – Origins (2013), Spirit Child (2014), Inside the Moment (2017) and Waiting for the Sunrise (2019) – bring together standards from the American songbook as well as original compositions and are strong proof of her strength both as a singer and instrumentalist. Thurman has also shown her skills at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as well as together with STHLM Starka at the Stockholm Nu Jazz Festival this spring.
Camille Thurman comes to Fasching with Darrell Green, a New York drummer who has toured and recorded with artists such as Cassandra Wilson, Pharoah Sanders and Dr. Lonnie Smith.
Together, these two powerful musicians have put together a band with trumpeter Wallace Roney, Jr., guitarist Bruce Edwards and bassist Tom DiCarlo.
