Kansas City saxophonist and composer Bobby Watson, with a background as musical director of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, brings his quartet’s patented blend of post-bop and messenger jazz to Kungsgatan 63.
After ending the Jazz Messengers era, Watson worked with a bunch of musicians, drummers Max Roach and Louis Hayes, saxophonists George Coleman and Branford Marsalis, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and a long line of singers such as Joe Williams, Dianne Reeves, Lou Rawls, Betty Carter and Carmen Lundy.
For more than five decades, Bobby Watson has contributed with intelligent and sensitive music to the modern jazz lexicon. About 30 recordings as a leader and over 100 other recordings, either as a partner or sideman, in support of other like-minded musicians.
At the age of 70, Bobby Watson is an important part of living, swinging jazz history!
