North Carolina-born singer, composer and guitarist Becca Stevens has carved out a niche of her own in contemporary indie-folk-pop music, drawing inspiration from jazz, pop, indie-rock and traditional Appalachian folk music.
With seven albums and two Grammy nominations, Steven’s latest album Maple to Paper is a solo project featuring just her vocals, guitar and a bunch of new songs recorded in her home studio in New Jersey. A record with power and expression that somewhat reminds of a young Joni Mitchell.
Some of this material was presented by Becca Stevens during an acclaimed concert at Fasching during the Stockholm jazz festival two years ago. In addition to the new record, during this last year Stevens has had time to make her Broadway debut in the musical Illinoise, based on the indie-folk singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens’ concept album with the same name.
Alongside solo albums and collaborations with the string quartet Attacca Quartet, Becca Stevens has a long list of high-profile artists and bands on her resume, ranging from Snark Puppy, Esperanza Spalding, Chris Thile and Brad Meldau to David Crosby, Vince Mendoza and Metropole Orkest.
Now the indie-folk-pop queen Becca Stevens is finally back at Kungsgatan 63.
