Norwegian tenor saxophonist Marthe Lea is about to conquer the jazz world with a band that combines spiritual jazz, folk music from several continents and free forms in an uplifting and completely unique musical mix. Her inclusive and rich musical universe incorporates echoes of Don Cherry’s early music, passes Ale Möller and both Ethiopian and Gnawa elements before landing in something reminiscent of our own Goran Kajfeš Subtropic Arkestra
In recent years, Marthe Lea has been seen in various major Norwegian music constellations such as Bugge Wesseltoft New COnception of Jazz as well as in trio format (released on ECM) together with Ayumi Tanaka and Thomas Strønen. Marthe Lea balances her heartfelt and powerful expression in an extraordinary way. The album Asura was released in 2021 and is a declaration of love for life!
