Sweden’s best-selling jazz album of all time, Jazz på Svenska, turns an unimaginable 60 years old! The music has become a Swedish canon, a part of the Swedish folk soul, where it is enough to hear a single note to start humming and put us in a feeling of folk melancholy. This evening, Jan Johansson’s epic is interpreted not from a duet as on the original album, but from two different trios from a new generation active in the contemporary folk and jazz scene – Britta Virves Trio and Klyv-Olle Trio. In collaboration with Swedish Radio.
Britta Virve’s Trio consists of herself behind the piano and the compositions, Jon Henriksson on bass and Jonas Bäckman on drums. In autumn 2022, the trio released their debut album Juniper on Kurt Rosenwinkel’s label Heartcore Records, which was then nominated at the 2023 Grammys for Jazz of the Year.Britta has quickly established herself on the Swedish jazz scene as a versatile and driven pianist in both big bands and smaller constellations. Dreamy, groovy compositions together with a dynamic interplay characterize the trio.
Britta Virves – piano
Jon Henriksson – bass
Jonas Bäckman – drums
Klyv-Olle Trio plays traditional Nordic folk music in a traditional jazz setting. It’s expressive and fine-tuned, it’s whimsical and serious, it’s tradition and improvisation in a fancy and unexpected mix. Klyv-Olle Trio balances between desecrating and cherishing traditions.
Olov Lindroth – piano
Egil Kalman – bass
Simon Albertsen – drums
