After over thirty-five years in the music industry, Lars Jansson is now seen as an established and respected composer, arranger, pianist and teacher. He has collaborated with several prominent musicians such as Jan Garbarek, Arild Andersen, Radka Toneff, Steve Swallow, Lew Sollof, Bob Berg, Rune Gustafsson, Ulf Wakenius, Georg Riedel, Rigmor Gustafsson, Göran Fristorp.
After more than thirty years with a permanent trio, Lars Jansson has chosen to play with two younger musicians; the Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek and Lars’ son Paul Svanberg on drums. Most of the music is original composed by Jansson as well as music from “The American Songbook”.
Lars Jansson became Denmark’s first jazz professor in Aarhus in 1998 and was nominated the same year Lars Jansson for the Danish Jazzpar prize. He also received a Danish Grammy for the album Hope in 2001. The Lars Jansson Trio is one of the most famous jazz groups in Scandinavia as well as in Japan and has toured large parts of the world.
To be part of the collective and at the same time have the total individual freedom to express one’s own voice. Pianist Lars Jansson’s definition of the essence of jazz music also summarizes what we can expect to hear when he performs at Fasching with his trio. It is music that unites and renews: both on and off stage, and as a collective and an individual.
Thomas Fonnesbaek plays in several Danish groups such as the Kristian Jørgensen Quartet, Thomas Clausen Trio, Mona Larsen and has participated in a large number of disc recordings.
After studying at the Academy of Music in Stockholm, Paul Svanberg has quickly established himself by playing with groups such as Kristian Brink Kvartett, Ulf Wakenius group and with the pianist Ion Baciu. Paul is a fully trained pilot. Lives in Malmö. Teaches air traffic controllers at Kastrup.
