British pianist and composer Greg Foat brings his modal, spherical, soul-jazz group Greg Foat to Fasching for an evening under the experimental starry sky.
The debut Dark is the sun, a concept album based on Philip José Farmer’s sci-fi novel, was recorded in Sweden, released on Jazzman in 2011 and received rave reviews. Last year saw the band’s sixth album Blue Lotus, the first in six years and an album that brings together threads from Foat’s last solo album and collaborations in jazz-funk, cinematic space tones and an ongoing Christmas Eve of Fender Rhodes, Moog and analog synths.
Greg Foat’s dreamlike version of modern jazz combines experimentation, unorthodox instrumentation and analog recording inspired by modal jazz and soul jazz.
