Sheherazaad

Sheherazaad presents an evening of experimental sound theater celebrating “placelessness,” with a collection of neo – folk, post – classical pieces performed in Hindi & Urdu. In her debut album, produced by Arooj Aftab, she weaves together pizzicato strings, microtonal vocal phrasing, and cinematic arrangements into an emotional journey of migration, mother tongue, and the restless movement of diaspora.

The New York Times describes her sound as “microtonal South Asian vocal inflections, minimalism and hints of flamenco”, while Rolling Stone India calls it “ethereal”. Moving between alternative folk, experimental balladry, and jazz improvisation, she reimagines Hindi-Urdu poetry for a new era. One of the most distinctive voices in global avant-garde music – and a rare opportunity to witness her live at Fasching. Don’t miss it!
