Dave Douglas Gifts Trio

New York trumpeter, record company executive and composer Dave Douglas takes his jazz unhindered across the boundaries of folk and art music. With over fifty albums under his own name and the record label Greenleaf, which also makes podcasts and distributes sheet music, he is one of contemporary jazz’s most diligent.

The last visit to jazz club Fasching was with the quintet. Now this jazz renaissance man joins Brooklyn-based drummer and composer Kate Gentile – active in NYC’s jazz and creative music scenes since 2011 – and Chilean guitarist and singer Camila Meza.

The Dave Douglas Gifts Trio is inspired by the life and music of tenor saxophonist Charles Lloyd. The trio reflects Lloyd’s vision in an innovative way and explores Lloyd’s fascination with Billy Strayhorn’s music. The album Gifts, featuring musicians other than the trio, arrived in the fall of 2024 and received rave reviews for its curious and creative interpretations of Strayhorn classics such as Take the A-train and Blood Count.

At Kungsgatan 63, it’s set for a new festive moment when Dave Douglas is joined by two of the most innovative musicians in today’s music landscape, guitarist Camila Meza and drummer Kate Gentile.
