Ever since Martin Hederos put together his dream band Hederosgruppen, it has developed into perhaps the country’s best jazz band on stage. They are usually placed in the jazz category, but they themselves seem mostly focused on making fun music. It is so full of ideas, impressions and improvisation that it is downright breathtaking.
The group debuted with Storstrejk (2020) and followed it up with Ståplats (2022), which is the only record to date to be awarded the Golden Record, a Swedish Grammy and the Manifest Prize. Expectations are thus high when their third album is now on the way. Fittingly, the record has been titled Breach of Style.
Just as before, all five members of the band are involved and contribute ideas and compositions. The result could have been divisive, but this quintet has made style-breaking its own art form and, as before, the edgy is mixed with the tender in a variety of styles. The common thread is the joy of being alive and being able to play music for an audience.
