Guitarist and composer Agnes Persson is one of the young musicians who has revitalized the Swedish jazz scene in recent years. She has been seen performing with musicians like Nils Berg, Elin Forkelid, and Isabella Lundgren, and has also composed and arranged for Bohuslän Big Band. Additionally, she is the touring guitarist of artist Yukimi (Little Dragon). Her debut album, In Collaboration With Flowers (Havtorn Records, 2021), gained significant attention on the Swedish jazz scene, leading to a nomination in the Best New Artist category at Manifestgalan 2022, as well as being named Guitar Jazz Album of the Year by Lira Musikmagasin.
In September 2024, Agnes Persson released her second album, Listen Closely, this time in a trio format. With her newly-formed group, Agnes has continued to develop her highly unique sound— ranging from soft and delicate to powerful and intense, creating a bold expression that draws from both jazz and free improvisation. “Even better and more unique than Agnes Persson’s debut album,” says reviewer Bengt Eriksson in Lira Musikmagasin.
The trio consists, in addition to Agnes herself, of double bassist Jakob Ulmestrand and drummer Ludwig Aronsson. Together, they explore and redefine the conventions of interplay, examining the possibilities of the guitar trio. The result is a distinctive sound with a highly dynamic expression, where the compositions amplify the already strong characters of the musicians.
For this evening’s performance, the band will be joined by acclaimed singer and composer Maja Svantesson (of the Lindha Kallerdahl Woice Ensemble).
