Release Concert – The Swedish jazz scene receives a new addition as double bassist August Eriksson releases his highly anticipated debut album Overgrown & Intertwined under the label Varva Records and Music. Born in 1996 and raised in Södertälje, August has quickly established himself as one of the country’s most exciting young musicians. On the album, he explores a suggestive and modern jazz world, where atmospheric melodies and dynamic interplay create an ambiance that both envelops and challenges the listener. With his debut album, he steps forward as a composer and bandleader, showcasing his distinct musical expression.

Recorded during an exclusive concert at Blinda Tigern, Overgrown & Intertwined offers newly composed jazz that is atmospheric, modern, and full of energy. The album focuses on the interplay between the musicians and is filled with evocative passages that sometimes explode into intense improvisation. August‘s double bass is the heart of the music, driving forward with both power and finesse, while also providing space for the musicians to shine in their respective roles. On the album, which will be released on November 22, 2024, you can hear the saxophonists Karolina Almgren and Jonas Liljeberg, guitarist David Kontra, vibraphonist Jesper Söderqvist, and Finnish drummer Okko Saastamoinen.

August has made a name for himself on the Swedish jazz scene and has played in many different groups, including Ellas Kapell, where he has demonstrated his versatility as a musician. However, on Overgrown & Intertwined, his own compositions take center stage, and the album represents an exciting chapter in his development as an artist. It is a musical journey that both challenges and engages, intertwining traditional jazz structures with a modern and creative expression.
