The pianist, singer and songwriter Anna Gréta has in a short time established herself as one of the most exciting profiles on the Swedish and international jazz scene. In her personally colored music, she crosses elements from jazz and pop with Nordic folk music that testify to her Icelandic roots. Anna Gréta has been awarded many times, e.g. she has received the Monica Zetterlund scholarship and the Ystad Jazz Piano Award.
Her debut album, Nightjar in a Northern Sky, won jazz album of the year at the 2022 Icelandic Grammys and she was named composer of the year. Now she is back with her second album on the famous label ACT Music – “Star of Spring” – inspired by the spring star flower that blooms in April and May. On “Star of Spring” Anna Gréta has created her own poetic world where each song is a personally crafted musical production. She has allowed herself to be inspired by the joy of spring, mathematics and physics, Sylvia Plath’s poetry and also more serious themes such as forced contraceptive use in Greenland. The record explores a palette of emotions, from quiet elegance to playful joy where Anna Gréta creates an atmosphere that is both meditative and poignant.
